Bhawanipatna is surrounded by Kesinga tehsil to the north, Lanjigarh tehsil to the south, Junagarh tehsil to the west and Narala tehsil to the north while the cities like Rayagarh, Kantabanji and Titlagarh are also connected with the periphery of this city. Moreover, Bhawanipatna has its borders which are also linked with regions of Thuapadad, Dadpur, Malgaon, Kamathana and Medinipur. It is located at the latitude and longitude of 19.90°N and 83.17°E, respectively with an average elevation of 248 meters. As this place is surrounded by large mountains and plateaus, it belongs to tropical wet and dry climate. The period of summer season is April-June with the highest day temperature at 48°C besides hot and dry winds. The average precipitation falls at this city at an average of 1300 mm from late June to September. Furthermore, the winter season starts here from November and lasts up to January with temperature around 5°C.
